Listen "Dr. Tina Byrom :Head of Enhanced Academic Practice at Loughborough University"
Episode Synopsis
Tina and her sister were brought up by their mother in Huntingdon- not far from Cambridge in the UK. Childhood was fun but without boundaries. School was pretty dull and she left with just moderate examinations results - and a passion for music which provided a platform for later development. Tina had no role models in her younger days but, despite that, now has a PhD which involved her investigating the problems facing people from disadvantaged backgrounds as they try to settle into Higher Education. Tina talks about impostor syndrome, the difficulties of fitting in when you are from a less advantaged background and how if circumstances had been just a little different she might have become a lawyer, a flight attendant or a police officer. Funny how life works out.
