The cross of Good Friday was a picture of utter irony. Instead of a throne, this King is lifted up on a cross to be crucified. Instead of adulation and cries of “Long live the King”, the bloodthirsty crowd cries out, “Crucify Him”. Instead of a crown of glory, a crown of thorns was twisted together, and set on His head. Yet the irony reveals a deeper truth. A truth that is cherished by those who see now, for Good Friday tells a different story from what it seemed at first.
