Listen "Nintendo Switch 2 Backward Compatibility"
Episode Synopsis
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with games from the original Nintendo Switch. This confirmation came from Nintendo's corporate management policy briefing, where President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that backwards compatibility is planned, allowing users to play current Switch software on the new system. The Switch 2 is expected to use the same ROM format as the original Switch, which supports this compatibility. This feature aligns with Nintendo's historical approach to backwards compatibility, particularly seen in their handheld consoles and some of their home consoles. The backwards compatibility also extends to Nintendo Switch Online, which will be available on the new platform. This move is seen as a strategic decision to continue selling bestselling games and maintaining a long-term relationship with consumers. Additionally, the use of the same ROM format may explain Nintendo's recent crackdown on emulators to prevent game piracy on PC. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
