Listen "Still Learning"
Episode Synopsis
A wise confirmation pastor assigned students to read one of the gospels with an adult. Our grandson chose the Gospel of Luke, inviting his grandfather to be the adult. They met every weekday, reading the text aloud, listening to Luke AND to each other. They reimagined the biblical scenes, discovering details and nuances that were new to them. The Spirit that Luke repeatedly calls attention to was busy in their mini meetings. As they ping-ponged ideas back and forth, they were drawn closer to Jesus and to each other. Smiling, I recalled the psalmist’s words — “one generation shall commend your works to another” (Psalm 145:4) As that psalm was embodied across our kitchen table, the 13th century prayer of Richard of Chichester came to mind: “Day by day, dear Lord, of these three things I pray: to see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly.”
