Listen "Red Wings Stay Hot, Blackhawks Spoil Coach Q’s Return with OT Stunner | NHL News"
Episode Synopsis
Hello guys! Welcome back to another episode of the Hockey Talk with TG Podcast. In today’s show, I take you through every major storyline from Sunday’s NHL action (October 19, 2025) — starting with a wild one in Washington and finishing with what’s ahead on tonight’s slate. We kick things off with the Vancouver Canucks, who exploded out of the gate and held on for a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals. Vancouver lit the lamp three times in the first period — goals from Elias Pettersson, Tyler Myers, and Kiefer Sherwood gave them a 3-0 lead before the game was even 18 minutes old. Myers had a standout night on both ends, and Thatcher Demko was sharp late, especially when the Capitals stormed back with three goals, including a late push that nearly tied it. Demko made a key save on an Alex Ovechkin deflection in the final seconds to secure the win and snap Washington’s four-game streak. Unfortunately, Alex Ovechkin is not at 900 goals yet.Next, we shift to Detroit, where the Red Wings took down the Oilers 4-2 for their fifth straight win. Dylan Larkin was sensational, putting up 2 goals and 2 assists, and now has points in all six games to start the season. Rookie Emmitt Finnie also stepped up with his first two NHL goals, including the empty-net dagger. Meanwhile, Connor McDavid’s goal drought continues, and the Oilers’ offense still can’t get rolling. Detroit is now 5-1-0, and they’re doing it without Patrick Kane, while Lucas Raymond made his return and contributed two assists.Over in Chicago, the Blackhawks stunned the Ducks in overtime, winning 2-1 in Coach Q’s return to the United Center. The OT hero? Ryan Donato, who finished off a beautiful setup from Connor Bedard — a hard-working play that saw Bedard retrieve his own rebound and dish from behind the net. Spencer Knight was a wall in goal with 38 saves, and rookie Frank Nazar also found the back of the net. Anaheim forced OT with a last-minute power play goal, but Chicago finally earned their first OT win of the season. In Utah, the Mammoth defended home ice with a 3-2 win over the Bruins, staying perfect at home (3-0-0). Dylan Guenther scored the game-winner midway through the third off a slick feed from JJ Peterka, while Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley also made their mark. Boston’s struggles continue — despite two goals from David Pastrnak, the Bruins have now dropped four straight and given up 17 goals during that skid. Pastrnak’s two tallies did push him into a tie with Ray Bourque for sixth all-time in Bruins goals, but it wasn’t enough.I also look ahead to tonight’s NHL matchups, with five games on the schedule, including:Wild vs RangersKraken vs FlyersSabres vs Canadiens (streaming on Amazon Prime for Canadian viewers ONLY)Jets vs FlamesHurricanes vs Golden Knights — a big one with Carolina still undefeated and Vegas riding a six-game point streak. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the episode.
