Whether it is graphics, film, music, drawings or sculptural investigations they all result in a wide range of altercations that engage his viewers on an experiential level that exploit the viewer’s perceptions and leave them curious about what they are viewing.
“kendallprojects” was founded in 1999 in response to the status of a series of multi-media performance works he was developing and needed to expand into a broader, more inclusive way of presenting the ideas together. It made sense to put the endeavor under the heading “project” including all the drawings, costumes, performances, videos, sculptures and installations created. This was also an effort to separate what was happening on the Internet by anyone going by the same name (i.e. musicians/ athletes using Jason Kendall), which is why he took the name kendallprojects. Providing a canopy for all the ideas within the work’s personas to related to identity construction throughout the production.
The packaged components center on a specific theme of investigation that pose precarious creative questions surveying specific interest in ritual and the dynamic relationship people have between work and play. Always in in a state of flux, they are called “projects” to creating narratives that are absurd, silly, aggressive, contradictory, strange, violent or even juvenile depending on the specifics of the project’s context.
