Episode Synopsis

Danny O'Neel is a former member of the United States Army who joined on September 11, 2001. He was a Fire Support Team member, known as a FIST, and did a 7-year enlistment. He sustained injuries in Iraq in 2006 and was forced out of the army. After leaving the army, he struggled with coping skills and turned to alcohol. He later got a job as a wireline engineer in the oil field, making a high salary but still struggled with alcohol. He is open to talking about his experiences and struggles. He received the Medal of Honor for heroism and lost several of his commanders and squad members in combat. He wears dog tags with their names every day as a reminder of their sacrifice. To cope with his struggles, he quit drinking and started working on himself. He now owns several businesses, including a tattoo shop, a t-shirt printing company, and a veteran and first responder nonprofit that focuses on mental health and helping veterans and first responders access therapy and remove barriers to mental health treatment. He also organizes events to bring veterans who served together back together to reconnect and combat suicide. He emphasizes the importance of veterans having a plan in place for when they leave service and the need for nonprofits that help veterans to work better together.
