Listen "S3, E6 | Kim Lim, Co-Founder & CEO Of PichaEats"
Episode Synopsis
Kim Lim is the co-founder and CEO of PichaEats, a social enterprise in Malaysia dedicated to empowering refugees through food entrepreneurship. Established in 2016, PichaEats collaborates with refugee chefs to provide authentic meals from their homelands, offering catering services for corporate events, weddings, and individual meal plans.
The inception of PichaEats was inspired by Kim's volunteer work at a refugee learning center during her university years. They envisioned a platform where refugees could utilize their culinary skills to earn a living, thereby supporting their families and keeping their children in school .
Under Kim's leadership, PichaEats has trained over 45 chefs from countries such as Syria, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, and Pakistan. The enterprise has served more than 350,000 meals and generated RM13 million in revenue, with half of this amount directly benefiting the chefs and their families .
Kim's commitment to social entrepreneurship has earned her recognition, including being listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia and receiving THE EDGE Inspiring Young Leaders Award. Her efforts continue to inspire change and demonstrate the power of food as a means to rebuild lives and foster community integration.
