Episode Synopsis

"Admit it. you didn't think they could do it, did you?"   Sioux Falls Live's Matt Zimmer asked that question to readers in his game column after South Dakota State's thrilling, playoff berth-clinching 34-31 overtime win at North Dakota.   Happy Hour host John Gaskins' answer: No. And he predicted as such in the shows leading up to the game.   What had anyone seen out of the Jackrabbits in their four-game losing skid that included a 38-7 humbling from North Dakota State, a humiliating loss to Indiana State — who lost to last place and winless-in-league Murray State on Saturday — a loss at South Dakota (0 points in the second half) and a home loss to Illinois State in which SDSU trailed 35-0 just 18 minutes into the contest?   In the month prior to UND, the Jacks couldn't run the ball, freshman third string quarterback Jack Henry had led the offense to a grand total of 8 points combined in the second halves of his two previous starts, and the defense crippled down the stretch in each of those losses.   So, how did it all turn around on Saturday in Grand Forks, particularly 202-75 rushing yards advantage against the nation's 10th-best FCS rushing team and one of the best run defenses in the FCS? Specifically, how did it all turn around after SDSU trailed 20-7 late in the third quarter and looked good for dead?   That's what Monday's Happy Hour monologue and interview with Dan Jackson is all about. The first year head coach takes you inside the Jacks' locker room during the month of misery and at halftime of the must-win game at UND.   What did Jackson say to Henry that catalyzed some monster downfield throws in the second half, including the game-winner? What did a defensive line coach say to Kobe Clayborne before Clayborne's strip sack that turned the game on its head?    How did offensive coordinator Eric Eidsness cook up an effective running scheme after SDSU had been bottled up for a month? When was the moment before the season started when Jackson realized Henry could be a special leader and competitor?    Oh... and how's that Chase Mason guy doing? The Jacks could sure use him in the postseason after going 1-4 without him and averaging just 14 points per game in those four losses (SDSU was 7-0 and averaging nearly 40 ppg with Mason starting).   Jackson gives the latest on Mason's health and a glimpse into Saturday's first round opponent New Hampshire.
