Humankind is a social animal. From gathering around a fire to grandiose ballroom cotillions, socializing is a primal need. And there is no more quintessential congregation to the human experience than hosting a function in ones own home. The house party is a sacrosanct gathering that is unbound by the formal laws of Emily Post. The etiquette of the common house party is more a loose collection of accords in the style of the pirate’s Brethren Court. Yet, there is one immutable commandment that, without ever being spoken, is innately understood by all would be participants. For the privilege of parlay, you must make an offering. The password for every and all house parties globally is, “What can I bring?”
