Listen "Sermon | Matthew 13:31-33 | IT'S LIKE THIS... 3. "Mustard Seed and Yeast""
Episode Synopsis
Sermon | Matthew 13:31-33 | IT'S LIKE THIS... 3. "Mustard Seed and Yeast" given by Rev. Joseph Sanford
The seemingly insignificant story would, over time and with commitment, work its way through your heart and mind until things began to be impacted.
Your life would be changed—and, through that change, the world around you would be affected for the better with provision.
But we must do the work.
—Jesus didn’t say it’s like a seed that grew—it was planted
—Not like leavened bread—it was kneaded and worked
The good news is:
we are all gifted and empowered by the Holy Spirit who
brings truth to our hearts.
These ancient stories continue to bring new life within us…
within US.
Rarely will I find new life in just myself, but in the body.
We are given, as Amy-Jill Levine says it, “God-given creative imaginations” that we must use to experience the true power of the Reign of God.
If you’re hoping for Pastor Joe to just give you answers, you will be disappointed.
I’m not interested in telling you WHAT to think about Jesus or the Reign of God,
But to offer what insights I have as we, together, learn HOW to think about Jesus and the Reign of God as he ushered it in…
…as it continues to grow today in and through us.
Together, in community, sharing with one another, taking our time, offering our intention, using our imaginations, and asking great questions, the presence of the Reign of God will work its way through our lives and bring new life which offers provision and sustenance to the world around us.
The Reign of God, through Jesus, is already here and working, amen?
The Reign of God is still growing and expanding in this world, amen?
We are a part of this mysterious and beautiful process, even if we aren’t sure how, amen?
