She became the first female Ugandan act to appear on the New York Times Square and the Los Angeles billboard.In this, the 3rd and last of the three episodes from the Live recording of the Grab A Coffee podcast, we engaged with a youthful icon of Uganda’s music industry, Azawi, real name Priscilla Zawedde. No doubt Uganda's music industry is a vibrant and dynamic force, contributing significantly to the country's social-economic development, youth employment, and civic awareness. In this episode, Azawi shares, in a rather no-holds-barred way how; Social-Economic Development through the generation of income through concerts, album sales, and merchandise, contributing to Uganda's GDP.The industry provides employment opportunities for musicians, producers, sound engineers, and other industry professionals, among others.Azawi also shares on the industry’s role in enhancing civic awareness- no better time than this election period..She doesn’t shy away from enumerating the industry's major challenges and opportunities that include Limited Funding, Piracy, and often a not enough enabling regulatory framework regarding copyright issues.
