Listen "Prison Hospice"
Episode Synopsis
The prison population is aging and with the longer sentences of recent years, more and more prisoners are dying without ever being released. How are they cared for? Is there anyone there to comfort or witness them in the final hours of their lives? There is a movement afoot to train other prisoners to offer care and compassion at the end of life. The impact on the ones who are doing this work, both prisoners and trainers, is profound. With the potential for loving end of life care, no matter what mistakes have been made, there is hope of an impact on a system that has certainly not always been kind. Join us to talk with people who train inmates in end of life compassion Why are they drawn to it? What has it taught them? And what can we all learn about universal compassion?
