Is the “Tithe” commanded in the Old Covenant a requirement of New Covenant believers? We will deeply exam the origins and purposes of tithe in the old covenant and the popular scriptures on this topic, that are misused (some purposefully and some unintentionally) today by many church leaders, to attempt to convince their congregations that tithing is a new covenant REQUIREMENT. Both Jesus and the apostles encouraged new covenant believers to give lavishly (especially to the poor) but neither of them EVER commanded the new covenant believers to give a tithe (10%). Jesus did however, address the Pharisees for their hypocrisy of tithing faithfully while simultaneously neglecting deeds of mercy.
