Listen "Endoplexed"
Episode Synopsis
For our fourth episode, Future Artefacts FM presents MH Sarkis’ work ‘Endoplexed’, a sixteen minute soundscape. Collaging audio snippets from Blade Runner to classical piano, we hear a conversation about a spider laying an egg in the middle of her web, soon after the egg hatches, 100s of baby spiders and released and consume their mother. The brutally brief description of motherhood sets the tone for this soundscape, which uses sensory experience, the wailing of a woman and pitch of a sonogram, to provoke an open-narrative about the technological futures of fertility, and reproductive technologies.Through a blend of mediums including textiles, CGI, film, responsive robotics, and machine learning, MH Sarkis's work explores relational dynamics, female experience and soft power within frameworks of potential posthumanisms and techno-protopias. Sarkis is a recent Goldsmiths MFA graduate and winner of the 2021 Almacantar Award and currently showing in the London Grads Now show at the Saatchi Gallery.WEBSITEArtist MH SarkisHosts Nina Davies and Niamh SchmidtkeMusic Joe Moss and John TrevaskisProducer Flo LinesBroadcast through Radio Thamesmead
