This background shaped his commitment to service; however, his path to the military took an unexpected turn during nursing school when a car accident resulted in his foot being amputated. Through determination and a physical therapist’s challenge to define his life goals, he pursued his dream of becoming an Air Force officer, even with a reattached foot.
