Episode Synopsis

Today on the Floyd Memorial Library Podcast, we’re joined by Tom Wickham, Owner and Operator of Wickham’s Fruit Farm in Cutchogue, NY. Tom comes from one of the North Fork’s oldest farming families, with roots on this land going back to the early 1700s. In addition to carrying forward a centuries-old agricultural tradition, he has also had a remarkable career beyond the farm, working in international water management, for which he was awarded the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize, and later serving as Southold Town Supervisor. In our conversation, Tom reflects on the history of his family’s farm, the challenges and changes in agriculture over his lifetime, his commitment to sustainable farming and workforce housing, and what it means to carry on a 170-year legacy while looking toward the future of farming on the North Fork.
