Ashwin Arendse is a poet, writer, all round creative, hustler and do’er.
In this episode we’re in conversation with our friend and fellow alumni drama student, Ashwin Arendse, about his debut poetry collection, Swatland. Ashwin is one of the first students to finish his masters degree in creative writing in Kaaps at Rhodes University.
Ashwin is also a pioneer as he uses an Arabic simbol to indicate the rolling 'R' of the Malmesburry venacular in his work. We talked about the magic of simplicity, the beauty of Kaaps, woodworking, dedication and his horse Ameerah. There is also a surprise in this episode – Ashwin recites some of the poems in his poetry collection.
