Listen "Independence is a State of Mind"
Episode Synopsis
Liberal religion in general and Humanism in particular have come in for a lot of criticism for being "individualistic." This is a misunderstanding concerning what individual conscience means in the context of communal action. As the philosopher John Dewey put it, "A democracy is more than a form of government; it is primarily a mode of associated living, of conjoint communicated experience." (Democracy and Education, 1916)
