Listen "The Fear Response"
Episode Synopsis
What happens in our bodies when we are suffering from anxiety? Listen in to this episode to hear Dawn explore and explain the response our body has when we are dealing with anxiety. She talks about the fear response, why this is how our body chooses to respond to stimuli as well as the action we can take to overcome the often learnt behaviours associated with it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Even just mild anxiety can trigger the fear response. This can also be referred to as the fight, flight, freeze response.
The fear response is triggered when the body perceives it is in danger, whether this is necessary or not, a threat is a threat as far as our subconscious minds are concerned. Many things are at play in this in your brain including the hypothalamuses and your hormone controlling pituitary gland.
Sometimes you may not even be aware of what has triggered this fear response, it’s your subconscious mind at play. Being able to recognise the physical symptoms, such as your heart rate increasing and digestive issues can help you notice when your body and brain is interpreting anxiety.
Many of Dawn’s clients can see and understand their anxiety isn’t logical but that doesn’t help them deal with the response they feel.
It can often feel like anxiety can’t be overcome and this is overwhelming. We can react in ways that are embarrassing or even dangerous but these responses are learnt behaviours. The fear response may be innate but our behaviours resulting from the anxiety associated with it aren’t.
If our mind can learn a behaviour then it can also unlearn it and this is the key to freeing us from anxiety, allowing us to live the life we truly want.
BEST MOMENTS
“Our subconscious minds reacts before our conscious mind”
“Our thinking brain is turned off, it’s absolutely too slow to be helpful in these dangerous situations”
“If our subconscious mind has learnt these things then they can unlearn them. Unpacking the deep beliefs, the rules, understandings and misunderstandings that are held in our subconscious minds reignites a transformational experience which can free us from the clutches of this condition”
