In Oct 2023, CNA published an article citing disturbing statistics about the state of men’s well-being in Singapore. ⅓ of male respondents found it difficult to express their emotions. 64% agreed it was acceptable to ask someone to “man up “ or “be a man”. Men made up ⅔ of all suicide deaths in Singapore in 2022.How can we work as a community to better support men’s well-being? We talk about:Why is it important to include both men and women in a conversation about men’s wellbeing?What are the individual, peer, group and societal changes that need to happen?What are the do’s and don'ts of supporting the men in our lives?-Meet Corinna Lim and Ghazali MuzakirCorinna is the Executive Director of Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE), an advocacy group that focuses on women’s rights and gender equality. Before her time with AWARE, Corinna was a lawyer doing work with the Singapore Association of Women Lawyers providing pro bono legal counselling to underserved women. Corinna’s personal experiences as a daughter and professional experiences fuels her advocacy for gender-equal homes and workplaces.Ghazali Muzakir is the founder of SG Male Allyship Network (SGMan), a community that holds space for men to learn, discover and practise masculinity in a healthy and empowering way.
