Henri Nouwen wrote a very insightful commentary on the wilderness temptation of Jesus. The three temptations of Christ in the wilderness can be understood as the temptations to be relevant, powerful, and spectacular. Nouwen observed that we don't usually even see these as temptations at all but a calling. However, if we don't gain master over these motivations within, they will ultimately sabotage our life and keep us in a perpetual state of insecurity trying to fulfill something within that can never be satisfied. Support the show
