Listen "Look Up! Don't Give Up. EP. 174"
Episode Synopsis
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of our podcast. I'm so glad you've decided to join me today. You know, life can be a bit overwhelming at times, can't it? It feels like just when we've got a handle on things, something new pops up to challenge us. Well, in our first lesson today, we're going to discuss some of the struggles of life and how to manage them, drawing from Bible ideas.
Now, let me remind you right off the bat: this ain't heaven.
Don't try to make this heaven. I'm not suggesting you run toward troubles on purpose—that would be foolish—but when they do arise, just remember, this isn't our final destination. Furthermore, there's no one simple magical answer to make all our troubles evaporate. There's this crazy idea floating around society that if we could just find that one magical solution, maybe we could turn lead into gold, or sorrow in joy. But it doesn't work that way. If there were a simple fix, I think we'd have found it by now, don't you? Six thousand years is a long time, and plenty
of folks have been searching for that easy answer.
However, it's not all in vain. There's purpose in the training, things to learn, and countless victories along the way. I think it's kind of funny we lose track of all the victories we've had. It doesn't take long after a success for us to forget it entirely. But think about it: you've survived everything life has thrown at you up to this very date. Every one of those challenges you've overcome
is a victory. If you'd been writing them down since you were six years old, you'd have volumes filled with your
triumphs. Sure, looking back as adults, some of those past struggles might seem trivial, and we'd probably chuckle at what troubled us back then. But back then
they were real challenges at the time, and overcoming them was significant.
So here's another rule before we dive into our lesson. Don't expect your younger self to understand what your older self knows now. Life is a journey of learning and growth. If you go back and judge your 25-year-old self based on what you know at 50 or beyond, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. That's not how it works. We learn, we grow, and we move forward.
Today, we're going to talk about how to manage some of these struggles by laying aside the unnecessary weights we carry. Hebrews 12:1 tells us, "Therefore, since
we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." Not every weight we carry needs to be shouldered. We need to evaluate what's
truly worth our time and energy.
We'll be exploring a range of things like idolatry, pride,
gossip, negative self-talk, and more. So, grab a comfortable seat, maybe a cup of coffee, and let's embark on this journey together. We'll learn how to identify the weights we don't need to carry, develop patience, and keep our eyes fixed on the path ahead. Remember,
every step forward counts, and we're all in this together. so, let's get started.
