Listen "Abusing Freedom EP. 161"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome back to another episode, today we're diving into living a life of true freedom in Christ.
Let's start with a powerful reminder from 1 Peter 2:16, where Peter tells us, "As free men, do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of
Christ." This might sound paradoxical at first, freedom and bondage in the same breath, but it gives us the essence of Christian liberty. Freedom is not free; it is the ultimate test of responsibility.
In our society today, many misunderstand freedom as a license to do whatever they please and avoiding the responsibilities that come with it. This misconception has led to much of the chaos we see around us. True freedom, as Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 2:3-4, involves enduring hardships as good soldiers of Christ, not getting
entangled in the affairs of everyday life, but focusing on pleasing the One who enlisted us.
Freedom in Christ is about living under God's authority, which brings the greatest success and joy. Jesus said in John 8:31-32, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." Notice the condition here of
continuing in His word. True freedom comes with the responsibility of obedience and living under God's authority.
As we explore this theme, we'll see that freedom is not about doing whatever we want but about doing what
is right in the eyes of God. It's about serving one another in love, as Paul writes in Galatians 5:13-14, and not using
our freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. So, let's journey together through the scriptures and discover how we can live out our freedom responsibly, honoring God and serving our community.
