Our scripture today comes from Luke 1:30: "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God." These first words from the angel - "Do not be afraid" - speak directly to our human condition. Fear is often our first response when God breaks into our ordinary lives with extraordinary purposes. Like Mary, we might feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or unworthy of what God is calling us to do.
