Empathy & Success: Stories

Por: Moy
This pilot episode is based on my best friend's brother from college. He is a first-generation Mexican American who has earned a PhD and works as an educator in Napa. His work connects personal experiences with social justice. Growing up in a community shaped by poverty and exclusion, Orlando pursued education as a means of transformation. Through poetry and pedagogy, he explores themes of identity, race, language, and power within educational spaces. The episode will highlight his journey from being a middle school teacher to becoming a doctoral scholar, showcasing how his creative work challenges the dominant narratives about Napa Valley.
