Keeping safe at home should be tops on your priority list. The Dollar Saving Divas have a great list of ideas on how to do just that.
Make sure your smoke alarms are working! Fresh batteries, photo electron and ion sensors. Having them all connected together alerts you even faster. And make sure you check the expiration dates on the sensors.
Turn on lights at night when walking around the house. Here's where Kelly can really give you examples of why you should!
Get object out of your walking paths.
Make sure your area rugs have backings.
DIY home security, like NEST as an example.
Check your water heater temperature. Set it at no higher than 140 degrees. You can also look at anti-scalding devices.
Water filters for better water quality. You can check on your city's water quality, and what impurities you should filter out at http://www.epa.gov/ccr.
Water filters should be NSF certified.
