Episode Synopsis

You are now standing in front of the new home of the Museum of Modern Art.  This building, designed by the Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguci, has itself been called a work of art.  The collection of the museum began at the close of the 19th century and today numbers close to 150,000 exhibits.As with the Guggenheim museum, we advise you to begin your visit to the museum from the upper floors.  The highest floor is set aside for temporary displays and exhibitions.  On the next lower floor you can see collections of sculpture and paintings of famous post impressionists and surrealists. Many of works of famous artists can be seen here: Van Gogh, Braque, Rousseau, Picasso, Malevich, Modigiliani, Serra, Dali, Duchamp, Matisse and many others.  Among the most famous and unique canvases in the collection of the museum are certainly the painting "Starry Night" by Van Gogh, the Picasso painting "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" and Malevich's "White on White".  The collection of works by Picasso is the best in the world.A visit to the 4th floor by the stairway is necessary to see the famous sculpture of Matisse, the Dance(r).  On the 4th floor of the museum are displayed the works of the 1940-1970's.  Here we see works of abstract expressionism, pop-art and minimalism by Jackson Pollock, Newman, Rocco, Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein and de Kooning. Descending to the next floor you will see unique exhibits of modern design and architecture: arm chairs, stools of various forms, extraordinary lamps, window grills and many other things.In the Atrium of the building under the open sky is the Sculpture garden.
