Episode Synopsis

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Like you are doing so much for everyone else with very little time left to tend to yourself? Most of us feel that way from time to time, but when is it the right time to ask for help? If you have ever considered talking to someone, like a therapist, but you’ve struggled with the decision because of privacy concerns, what your loved ones might think or the social stigma associated with mental health, then this episode is for you.Today we are going to talk about cultural trauma. Women of color, particularly immigrants are perceived to be strong and are expected to take care of everyone else around them with very little time to care for themselves. But setting unrealistic expectations could really impact our mental wellness. Our guest today is Dulce Orozco, a Latina Immigrant Therapist and licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts. Fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese, Dulce owns a private practice where she specializes in working with women of color from immigrant families by helping them overcome the challenges of putting themselves first and setting boundaries without feeling guilty. Because of her personal and professional experience, she is fascinated by the role culture has on our mental health and how we perceive ourselves.Listen to Dulce’s unique perspective on intergenerational trauma and the role culture plays in our own mental health, as she shares simple tips on how to find someone who understands us culturally, who is able to recognize and make us aware of our own blinds spots that may be related to culture. And then being able to build a space where we feel understood and accepted to begin to do the work and take action to rid ourselves of the guilt that often visits us in different ways that leads to changes to better our own lives. And if you’re listening on Apple Podcasts, please head over to the Reviews section and leave us a 5 star review, it really helps others find our show, and thank you. Here’s my interview with the Latina Immigrant therapist, a licensed Mental Health Counselor, Dulce Orozco.Join the Facebook Community: http://bit.ly/helenajgroupLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HelenaJNowFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/helenajnowWatch on YouTube: https://bit.ly/helenajyoutubeJoin the VIP list: https://bit.ly/helenajvip
