In today’s episode I sit down with my friend, Dr. Jessica Bennett. Dr. Bennett has a deeply seeded passion for teaching literacy to children who learn differently.
Jessicahas a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Special Education with a focus on using structured literacy for children with reading disabilities. Her Masters is in Deaf Education and her bachelor’s is in Psychology–also from OSU.
As a licensed intervention specialist preK-12, Dr. Bennett has been teaching since 2005. Dr. Bennett has been training and coaching teachers since 2011 at The Ohio State University, Battelle for Kids, Otterbein University, and throughout the state of Ohio.
Jessica also writes curriculum, conducts research, and trains the program managers at the Final Third Foundation (501C3) as an Educational Specialist [link]; is the author of Mindful Miru [link]; and is the host of the Mindful Literacy Podcast.
Jessica was deeply impacted by her trip to Mombasa, Kenya in December 2023, where she got to see firsthand where F3 got its start. There she had the opportunity to train the coaches of LCFL so that they could start Football and
Literacy for the kids in their community, which they did in April of 2024!
