Episode Synopsis

Today, in my mind's eye, I saw a muddy puddle and I was half expecting to see a beautiful reflection in it but no, it was just a muddy puddle. This made me think of depression which doesn't seem to have anything good in it or around it. One is just consumed by depression. Usually depression is caused by our overall perspective - of fear or a sense of failure or a consuming fatigue - often because we are so busy helping others and forgetting about ourselves - or of futility, that is, perceiving our life as ineffective; or forgetting that we can depend on God and that we are not indispensable to anyone. The Old Testament prophet, Elijah, who did mighty works, having a faith in a mighty God fell into depression (1 King 19). Disciple Peter in the New Testament, who loved Jesus so much, had times of falling out of faith and of guilt. However, God immediately ensured Elijah and Peter were attended to and were encouraged in these difficult times. God understands our human frailties. He created us.
