Thanks for tuning into today’s conversation. In this second part, Carla takes us through her postpartum period after the birth of her son Theo, her breastfeeding journey, her second pregnancy and how her first brith influenced her model of care this time around.

In this conversation we chat about

✔️not having any issues to initially breastfeed but Carla’s son had a severe tongue and lip tie which led to her milk supply dropping in the first 5 weeks postpartum
✔️trying to increase her milk supply to avoid formula top-ups after her son’s weight was dropping by pumping, resting and eating nutritious foods
✔️having to get her son’s lip and tongue tie revised again at 4 months by laser as the frenulum reattached and Carla noticed the same latching issues he was having as a newborn were coming back
✔️being in tune with her body and ovulation period so Carla knew exactly when was the right time to conceive when she decided to expand her family
✔️doing “midwife shopping” before she even fell pregnant to make sure that she would find the right person for her home birth
✔️intending to breastfeeding during her labour to help release oxytocin and increase the sensation of labour
✔️planning to tandem feeding both her toddler and newborn and seeing it as a great opportunity to reduce her risks of mastitis and create a healthy milk supply
✔️relaxing for this upcoming birth as she trusts her midwife and feels that her birth will unfold the way it will but she can count on her midwife and herself to keep her baby safe
