Listen "Cuban Stories: Episode 34 - A Cuban Christmas Story"
Episode Synopsis
A dual-language episode. First narrated in English and then in Spanish. The Spanish portion starts midway in the recording. In this story, the Green Plantain brings you a four-generation family Christmas story which begins with a backstory set in Cuba and the arrival of Cruz and Eusebio Herrera and their four children to the U.S. through the Mariel Boatlift. What was Christmas like on the island? How did they celebrate? What traditions have changed or remained in the United States? We hope you like this episode as much as I enjoyed writing about this familión, and Marilyn Marrero, one of their granddaughters and author of Just Like Mima's with Cuban memories and fifty recipes we can all relate to and enjoy. For me, it was the Trigo milkshake that reminded me of my mom making the tasty snack in Miami.
