No matter how well we can create ideas, solutions or plans – at some point we will want to share those with others. It may be a single powerful decision maker, a small focus group, or a vast audience. It may be delivered in person, live and online, or as a video recording. Regardless, we will need to draw upon a set of skills and knowledge to deliver our message effectively. Getting our point across is only half the battle, as our main goal is ultimately to influence the decisions and actions of others that shape our world.
Presenting in person involves an understanding of human interaction at all levels. It is challenging for some of us as it invites judgement and can make us feel nervous. Delivering using technology can have the opposite problem, as well as adding new ones. Without other humans in front of us we might forget these basics of human interaction as we talk blandly to an impersonal camera. However, if we can keep track of the cause and effect of human interaction, we might overcome these obstacles to success. When we can consistently present a compelling message in all situations we can truly be in command of our own destiny.
