Witnesses. Luke wrote his gospel using eyewitness testimony. He did the legwork. He did the research. He wanted the truth. And from his research we have accurate, raw witness statements like:

"He saved others, but he can't save himself!" Luke 23:35, NIV

"There was a written notice above him, which read: This is the king of the Jews." Luke 23:38, NIV

"Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us." Luke 23:39, NIV

The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” Luke 23:47, NIV

During this Holy Weekend, we will spend time with Jesus during the last moments of his life, and return three days later, on Sunday, to listen to more witnesses.

What do the witnesses say on Sunday?

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Luke 24:5-6, NIV

“It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” Luke 24:34, NIV

Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” Luke 24:26, NIV
