In this episode Brenda and Alex begin to unpack Anger. Anger is an all encompassing response - we feel it in our bodily responses, our mental value judgements, and our emotional reactions.
Through exploring the differences between righteous and unrighteous anger in the journaling exercise provided in this episode we can begin to work through our own struggles with this layered emotional response. It is possible to be right in our assessment of what is making us angry, and wrong with how we handle it. By working through the questions discussed throughout the episode we can begin to walk through the process of anger in a way that allows us to grieve unrighteousness that is personally affecting us. As we allow grief into our anger we are more able to respond with meekness and wisdom.
As we acknowledge how anger affects our spirit, we also acknowledge how it heavily affects our body. Brenda and Alex also talk about the importance of using the energy surrounding our anger to propel to motion, which will help us to have a clear mind and process the roots of our anger.
It’s important to remember that this is not a perfect formula to remove anger from life. We are not always going to get this right - we are going to have to continually confess, repent, and ask for forgiveness because we are imperfect. We can take the time and be intentional and work through anger instead of trying to remove it altogether. Sometimes we want change to come instantaneously but we have to remember that sanctification is a process where we are cooperating with God to become Holy in thought and process. The more we can practice intentionally processing anger the more routine it will become, which allows us to also teach this process to others.
