Listen "Ep. 52: Social Media ICKS"
Episode Synopsis
Ep. 52: Social Media ICKS In this episode, I discuss social media and the things that people do on Instagram that can drive others crazy. I was inspired to post and ask people about their social media "icks" after experiencing frustration with some of the behavior I had encountered. The first "ick" discussed is unsolicited advice, where people offer their opinions or solutions without being asked. The second is DMing and asking about someone's goals, which can come across as insincere and disingenuous when building relationships on social media. Other icks include long comments designed to show off expertise, posting other people's content without permission, cold pitching, and including links in Instagram captions that cannot be clicked. Eating on camera, small businesses sending automated replies, and commenting on a post without following the account are also discussed. Finally, I touch on the importance of having a bio that accurately represents who you are and what you do, as well as avoiding using only stock photos and instead opting for imperfect but authentic selfies. The overall message is that social media should be used to create human connections, and that robotic or impersonal behavior can be a major turn-off for potential clients and customers.
