Listen "Hydration"
Episode Synopsis
It’s been a hot week in Edmonton and that brings to mind an important aspect of active transportation: hydration. Here’s some tips to help you not hit the wall or bonk or in lay-people’s terms, pass out.
1. Don’t wait till you’re thirsty to drink. . Sip water steadily throughout the day
2. Flavour your water if you find it boring. fresh fruits or a splash of fruit juice, clear broths, ice pops and sports drinks all work. Just make sure to limit caffeine and alcohol.
3. Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables. There’s no need to stick only to water. Incorporate watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, peaches and pineapples, cucumbers, leafy greens, radishes, celery, zucchini and tomatoes into your diet.
4. Stay inside when it gets too hot. try to avoid sun exposure, especially between 10 am and 2 pm, when the rays are strongest. Plan outdoor activities in the early morning or evening.
5. Dress for the weather. Wear light, loose-fitting lighter-coloured clothing with a wide-brimmed hat, also use plenty of sunscreen to avoid sunburn.
