Listen "Petrol And Diesel No Longer Most Popular Vehicles In Clare"
Episode Synopsis
Petrol electric hybrids are on course to be the most popular vehicles in Clare this year.
Data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows 671 vehicles with a petrol electric engine have been sold so far this year which is up 17% on the same period of 2024.
By contrast, just 562 petrol and 558 diesel engine vehicles have been registered in the county in 2025 to date, indicating drops of 16% and 24% respectively.
Director of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry Brian Cooke says the figures show it looks like it'll be a record-breaking year for electric vehicle sales nationwide.
