It's claimed communities in East Clare are in desperate need of housing if they're going to be sustained into the future.

This week's meeting of Killaloe Municipal District welcomed Sinéad O'Donoghue who's just taken up the role of Head of Housing Activation with the local authority.

She told the meeting the housing-related issues she'll be working on in East Clare will include provision of serviced sites, provision of private housing in serviced rural settlements, bringing derelict properties back into use in rural areas and identifying relevant funding opportunities.

Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes insists GAA clubs, schools and local businesses can't survive if they isn't housing in small towns and villages.
