Listen "29th September 2002: The Finish That Fueled The Fury"
Episode Synopsis
On September 29, Ferrari’s dominance at the 2002 United States Grand Prix reached an almost farcical climax. Michael Schumacher slowed on the final straight, trying to stage a dead-heat finish with Rubens Barrichello – only to be beaten by 0.011 seconds. What was meant as a show of supremacy instead fueled the fury of fans still raw from Austria’s team orders scandal. In this episode of Chequered Past, we revisit that controversial finish at Indianapolis, go back to 1991 for Nigel Mansell’s sparks-flying duel with Ayrton Senna in the first Spanish Grand Prix at Catalunya, and head to Sochi in 2019, where Ferrari’s infighting let Mercedes steal another win. Three races, three eras – and plenty of fury, drama, and strategy along the way.Cover Image: By Rdikeman, CC BY-SA 3.0, LinkSend us a textMusic by #Mubert Music Rendering
