With the arrival of October and the festivities of Halloween, it's an opportune time to reflect on the holiday's spiritual aspects. As first response Chaplains, this is a moment to consider how we can provide spiritual support to the First Responders we serve during this season.Originating around the 9th century as a Celtic festival celebrating Samhain (Samhain is the Druid god of death). People would open up cemeteries, light bonfires, make sacrifices, and wear costumes to scare off any ghosts.How has "Samhain" evolved into what is celebrated today? What is the spiritual nature of Halloween today? What affect does this "holiday" have on First Responders"? Has this "holiday" been successfully "Christianized"? Join us and gain a little insight into the history of Halloween!
