Lucy Moderatz (Sandra Bullock), a lonely Chicago “L” token collector, has a secret and hopeless crush on Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher), a handsome commuter who passes her booth every day. While working a shift on Christmas Day, Lucy witnesses Peter getting mugged and falling off the train platform. Without thinking, Lucy jumps onto the tracks and rescues an unconscious Peter from being hit by an oncoming train, saving his life.
