William Henry Twine founded the community of "Twine" orginally a (160 acre) homestead which grew into the town of "Twine, Oklahoma". Some years later the town changed its current name of "Taft, Oklahoma".
On September 22, 1891, the Twines were among twenty thousand who made the Sac and Fox Land Run into Oklahoma Territory. Twine's 160-acre homestead was near Chandler, where he taught school.
As a social barometer white women did not get their right to vote until 1920.
