We live in a performance based culture. Do x to get y. And it doesn't stop with one thing. It seems to be in everything we do. It's as if someone is holding a big grade book and checking off all our tasks as we do them- grading them to see if we are good enough. Some look at faith the same way believing that the purpose of our faith is to earn credit. But it's not credit that saves us. Only faith in Jesus does that.
