We explore the deep symbolism of the four species used on Sukkot, connecting Rebbe Nachman’s teachings on joy and yearning. The lulav, aravot, and hadassim represent a Jew’s desire and struggle to connect to Hashem, especially through setbacks and confusion. The etrog symbolizes the culmination of this process, bringing clarity and joy. By joining the two—yearning and joy—Rebbe Nachman teaches us to turn challenges into growth. Through Simcha in performing mitzvot, we gain clarity and connect to the Infinite Light, using the energy of Sukkot to fuel us for the year ahead.
