Episode Synopsis

Last month I lost a special person whose positive influence on my formative years as a young professional is undeniable. This episode takes me back to the 1980s (VHS movies, big hair and big shoulder pads) for a reflection on the passage of time, often a precarious subject for family caregivers. We may dread the hours we spend caring for someone we know is not going to get better. We may wish we could slow time as we teach a child to manage a health condition more independently as she grows and eventually leaves home. When we're caring for someone who will outlive us and will continue to need extra support, but we don’t know who will step up or how that will happen, we may fear the passage of time. When caregiving means missing family events, lunches with friends, or holiday gatherings, time can feel wasted.
This episode invites us to repackage our negative impressions about the passage of time spent as a family caregiver. What if we approached each day, no matter how challenging, like a precious gift? What might that look like? Listen in!
