In this episode we take a look at White Saviors in fiction, media, and the volunteering realm.
From award winning movies to your local news, the White Savior Complex isn’t difficult to spot. In this episode we define this narrative and share our experiences. The White Savior Complex (WSC) has been highlighted in the media due to movies like, Hidden Figures, and Green Book. In these movies we see POC being aided or “rescued” by the white character often changing the narrative of the story. Throughout the episode we examine how the WSC has impacted the issue of racism and even the negative affect it has on volunteerism.
