On the third day, women went to the tomb and found the stone rolled away and the body of Jesus missing. The women went immediately to tell the apostles. Peter went to the tomb and found what he had been told to be true. Jesus appeared to men on the road to Emmaus. Jesus broke bread, blessed it, and gave it to the men, and their eyes were opened to who He was. The men told the disciples, and Jesus then appeared with them. The disciples witnessed the fulfillment of scripture and would proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations. However, they were to remain in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit was given to them. Jesus led them to Bethany and was taken away from them and carried up into heaven.
