The Honorable Willie L. Brown, Jr. is the first Black and longest-serving Speaker of the California State Assembly, and the first Black Mayor of San Francisco. He made a significant impact both in the Assembly, where he authored groundbreaking bills, and in San Francisco, where he oversaw major changes. Brown, now 90, met Kamala Harris 30 years ago when she was an Alameda County prosecutor.
